Picky Eaters Stay Thinner
On the About.com weight loss forum Janis said, "Losing weight isn't about walking around hungry. It's about finding a plan you can follow that keeps you satisfied so you can stay on it for life."
That is so well put and absolutely true. Too many people equate weight loss with pain and suffering. It does not have to be like that, and should not be like that, if one wants permanent results.
A lot of it comes down to choices; do you want another calorie laden, oil soaked, sugar dipped cold greasy pastry, or would you rather enjoy a wonderful dessert later? There is way too much "see food, eat food" going on.
We don't have to eat it just because it's there. Get picky. Is it ordinary? Then choose to say, "No, thanks." Wait for something special (this advice works in love as well).
Step one is starting to simply skip the ordinary crap that so many are eating, the half stale chips, the last few bites of casserole because you don't want to "waste it," the dips and tastes and licks of everything while you cook so you've eaten enough calories to count as a meal already, and all that snacking. Holy smokes, do we really need to eat non-stop?
Last night I suddenly remembered we have a couple pieces of really tasty pizza that if we don't eat pretty soon will get tossed. I thought about it for a minute, then just said, "I'm totally not hungry." I remember way back when I would have happily eaten that pizza and maybe scrounged for something else too. Actually, I did go looking for some nuts to mix with chocolate chips and found a whole big bag of peanuts but the bag was open and so I knew they'd be stale. Gross! They were, so they got tossed, and just chocolate chips didn't appeal, so I went back in and finished watching a movie. No harm, no foul.
If I had been hungry, I'd have figured out what I was really hungry for and eaten it (or something very close to it) but since I wasn't hungry, I had a fleeting thought about eating and then it was gone.
Just because the idea of eating crosses your mind doesn't mean you have to eat. Check out About.com's weight loss forum and say hello. I'm easy to find, just look for OneMoreBite, natch.
